CrossFit gyms are all over these days, but CrossFit Valkyrie is in a league of its own. There is something special and unique about the perfect combination of members and coaches that all work together in a manner that ultimately results in gaining a family. You are joining not just a gym but rather a community. You will get out of this experience what you put into it, and if you get involved I can promise that your time at CrossFit Valkyrie will be nothing short of amazing.

The hardest part about your journey to a healthier and happier life will be the initial decision to make contact with the gym. Was I intimidated at first? Yes, but I knew that just by signing up for On-Ramp sessions I was making moves towards a new and improved me. At the time I was looking for something that was going to challenge me, and I knew that signing up for a standard gym would never provide that. There was something so daunting about walking into a gym and not knowing what machines to use or how much to lift, and for this reason I avoided gyms all together. Currently, not only do I get instruction on proper technique and weight but I also get prescribed workouts that I know will push me to my limits everyday. With that said, CrossFit is not for everyone. I don’t mean that on a physical capability level; but if the desire to constantly improve upon your current self is not there, you will not succeed. As long as you have the drive to be better than you were yesterday, you will fall in love and dare I say it, become addicted. Be prepared to watch your body undergo amazing changes but even more importantly be ready for improved mental well being and toughness.

The coaches and my fellow Valkyrie athletes have been so encouraging and so motivating that it has literally changed the way I think about myself as a whole.

When I joined CrossFit Valkyrie a year ago, I had little confidence in myself and my ability to do athletic things.  Even some everyday things that require a little strength and agility.

A little over a year ago at work, the water cooler jug needed to be changed.  No one was around to change it for me, so I rolled the 40 lb. jug down the long hallway and then struggled to lift it onto the cooler.  Now fast forward to a few months into CrossFitting. I was working for a new department and the water jugs were located in the warehouse which was down an unusually long flight of stairs.  When it came time to change the jug, not thinking anything of it, I lifted it up onto my shoulder (using correct form, of course!), carried it up the stairs and placed it on the cooler – much to my male co-worker’s surprise!  He exclaimed, “Why didn’t you ask me to do that for you?!”  I said, “Because I can do it myself!”  I sat down after that and felt pretty proud of myself for believing that I was capable of doing this, when before I never thought I was strong enough.

The coaches at CrossFit Valkyrie have not only taught me how to lift weights with proper form, (safety is a high priority!) but they have also helped me realize that I am an athlete – a word which I always refused to use to describe myself.  Outside of the Box, I have always been very hard on myself.  Not giving myself much credit for the good things I can do, and somewhat of a perfectionist.  Of course I brought that with me into the Box as well.  The coaches and my fellow Valkyrie athletes have been so encouraging and so motivating that it has literally changed the way I think about myself as a whole.  Yes, I can lift more weight now than I ever imagined possible.  I can do some gymnastic movements that I thought only gymnasts could do.  I can even run more than just one mile at a time without stopping, which I could not do before!  But I also am now able to recognize that I can do these things and be proud of myself for my accomplishments, both inside and outside of the gym, which I was not able to do before.

Being a member of CrossFit Valkyrie has changed both my body and my mind for the better, and I could not be more grateful for that.  I am happier and healthier than I have ever been.

They have been able to blast away or chip away at those inner fears that had always blocked me from trying anything fitness oriented . . .

I first came to CrossFit Valkyrie out of curiosity. I wanted to see what and who had made such significant changes in my daughter.  I’d been noticing in her a new vitality, as well as sensing a new happiness and confidence. I’d intended to come and watch a session but not to participate.  I’d never been interested in gyms or physical sports outside of a little bowling or walking. Besides, I was so immobile from years of sedentary living and poor circulation. I was an overweight 57 year old Grandma with a bum knee who was afraid of being judged.

I was told by my daughter that sitting and watching was discouraged and I should bring loose clothes and work out for that little bit of time I’d intended to watch her.  Coach Mike arranged a time for that first On Ramp session.  I bit back my dread and went for it, still with no intention of really getting involved but wanting to see what it was all about.

What I found there was inspirational.  This wasn’t just about exercise or at least the idea of exercise I had planted in my mind.  It was about mobilization, variety (never boring), strength training, nutrition and learning about efficient use of energy. There are also values apparent there like encouragement and the support that come from the other members and from the coaches.

I believe any progress I’ve made is due to the special care and encouragement of the coaches at CrossFit Valkyrie.

They are always supportive, not critical or judgmental. They have been able to blast away or chip away at those inner fears that had always blocked me from trying anything fitness oriented (even the irrational fears).  I trust them as they are ever careful of injury prevention.

Working out at CrossFit Valkyrie has helped me tackle routine tasks at work and home that used to be difficult if not impossible.  I found out that the fastest and surest cure for my achy joints and troublesome spots is to mobilize.

I can do stairs today without hesitation, lift and carry more and catch those Grandkids now when we play tag! There’s been an improvement in my nutritional intake and I’ve have lost some 40lb or so. That bum knee rarely troubles me anymore. The best gift though has been the sense of personal empowerment I’ve gained since beginning my training.  I feel stronger and more alive today. I would and do recommend CrossFit Valkyrie to anyone!

Thanks to the value Mike, Martin, George, and Morgan put on preventing injury, I jumped in knowing they had my back (which they would not let break).

Crossfit Valkyrie proves the adage “It’s never too late” – for anyone. I’m a grandmother; I had stopped exercising 25-years ago; I sat at a desk 8 hours a day. Along with my body, my spirit was starting to deteriorate.

Almost a year ago, everything changed when Mike came to my office to explain CrossFit. I assumed he wanted me to spread the good word to my younger, fitter co-workers. He certainly could not be recommending WOD’s for this older woman who could not even lift the water cooler bottle without assistance!  But a couple of weeks later, he returned. This time he persuaded me to check out Valkyrie and see for myself. And there she was – my inspiration.  Joan (a fellow “mature” woman) was bear crawling across the floor.  She stopped to explain her journey from years of no physical exercise to successfully completing her on ramp. She made no excuses; she had heart, commitment, and courage. I decided to dig deep to find my own.

Showing up the first day was the hardest, but Martin’s easy, non-patronizing  manner (without the slightest sign of ageism, sexism, or judgement) helped me to get past my fears and focus on the tasks at hand.  Thanks to the value Mike, Martin, George, and Morgan put on preventing injury, I jumped in knowing they had my back (which they would not let break). They’ve led me through to the end of each WOD I thought was impossible, and let me prove to myself that my body was capable of accomplishing more than my mind imagined. Add to that the collective team spirit and synergy of the other Crossfitters—no one willing to try is left behind!

My physical strength and stamina improve every week, and that is life-changing for the mind and spirit as well. The right inspiration comes as the right time, but I’m glad it didn’t wait another day!

I enjoy that the classes are both challenging and unique from week to week. There is always a mobility and stretching portion of each workout, which is prepared in advance to get ready for the workout planned for the day.

Crossfit Valkyrie is more than just a gym or fitness class, it’s a community bonded through shared competitive and cooperative workouts of the day. I would recommend Crossfit Valkyrie to anyone who has a desire to push themselves into better physical shape in a friendly “Cheers” kind of environment.

In October 2014, I was an out of shape, breathing heavy after running up the stairs type of guy. I was never a serious regular at the gym, and was surprised when I realized I actually enjoyed working out at Crossfit Valkyrie. There is a sense of community at Crossfit Valkyrie that I hadn’t experienced at any other gym. The other athletes all encourage each other to push themselves and that creates a positive attitude that makes me want to improve my own personal records (which are kept on a board in the gym – how cool is that!). I enjoy that the classes are both challenging and unique from week to week. There is always a mobility and stretching portion of each workout, which is prepared in advance to get ready for the workout planned for the day. All of the trainers have high levels of enthusiasm and are always giving tips on proper form. Before I moved up to heavier weights, the coaches double checked my form, which is great for someone like me who had no prior weightlifting experience.

After six months of regular workouts, I still don’t consider myself in great shape, but I’m way ahead of where I was when I first started. I had struggled with exercises as simple as push ups when I first started, but now I can keep up with the class without pausing to catch my breath. I’m even able to do a couple of pull-ups on my own! I’m looking forward to seeing how much more I’ll be capable of after another six months of classes.

…this box has improved my overall fitness and well being over the past 1.5 years dramatically. It has changed my attitude from ‘I’m in no shape to do that!’ and ‘there is no way i could do that’  to ‘I can do that and I will crush it.’

I joined Crossfit Valkyrie in October 2013. I was looking for something new and exciting and to also get me back into shape after being sidelined for a few years due to some major surgery. Being an athlete all of my life i knew I needed to be challenged and boy was I!

CrossFit Valkyrie is definitely as good as it gets! From the start I felt really welcomed and all of the coaches are both passionate and always looking for ways to give you the results that you want. These guys mean business. No more working out for 2 hours in a regular gym alone, unmotivated and doing a repetitive workout everyday with minimal results! They are genuinely nice people that are passionate about fitness, health and every single one of their members. The coaches aren’t just there to yell at you and get you through the workout; they place a huge priority on form and accuracy so you won’t get injured, and will make you scale down if your form isn’t spot on. The programming is top notch. They don’t skimp on the personal attention, question answering, and discussion. they want to make sure you have a deeper understanding of each move so you can actually get better, faster, and stronger. The coaches are always hands on and they truly know what they are doing. Every athlete is treated like they are the most important athlete, regardless of ability.

The community here at CrossFit Valkyrie has an unparalleled ability to create a welcoming atmosphere. This Box has definitely become like a second family to me and there is always something going on to get involved in.  CrossFit Valkyrie is intoxicating and addictive and the members and coaches are some of the best people I have ever met.  There’s definitely a camaraderie at CrossFit Valkyrie;the people around you will cheer you on and even join in alongside you to make sure you finish strong.  The last person always gets the loudest cheers!

CrossFit Valkyrie has improved my overall fitness and well being over the past 1.5 years dramatically. It has changed my attitude from “I’m in no shape to do that!”  to “I can do that and I will crush it “. I walk in the door everyday in anticipation of what will be my next challenge to conquer today because I know that the workout listed on that board is going to kick my A** and yes I keep coming back for more! If you’re ready to get serious about improving your flexibility, mobility, cardio and core strength then you must make the investment in this Box.  You will not be disappointed but you must be determined.  I promise you will be sore but you will also be coming back for more. CrossFit Valkyrie is the place to be I can promise you that!  The best in Westchester by a landslide!

I am a Connecticut resident and I have many CrossFit boxes within a 5 minute drive and I chose to go to Valkyrie for the simple fact that they are the only ones I felt truly cared about me and my well being and getting me the results I am looking for of and doing it the proper way.   Kudos to Mike, George and Martin!! You guys rock!
