What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is defined as, “constantly varied, functional movements done at a high intensity.” Basically that means we do anything from push-ups, sit-ups and kettlebell swings to olympic and power lifting and everything in between.
It’s been awhile since I’ve done any exercise, do I need a minimum level of fitness or experience to join CrossFit Valkyrie?
Absolutely not. We train everyone from grandmothers and “cubicle crusaders” to Military Special Forces and First Responders. Our belief is that the correct program works for everyone across the board and does not change in scope, only scale.
I consider myself in good shape and already have a workout routine that includes High Intensity Interval Training, running and lifting. Will I still have to complete the On-Ramp program?
Yes. We require all Valkyrie members to go through the On-Ramp program unless you’ve completed a similar protocol at another CrossFit affiliate. Aside from assuring your safety and opportunity to solidify your understanding the functional movements for CrossFit, it will allow you to join the Group Classes with the base of knowledge required to keep our classes moving and on-time.
The On-Ramp program doesn’t appear to be offered at a time that is convenient for me but I would still like to join, what are my options?
Our On-Ramp program typically starts the first and third Monday’s of each month and goes for 9 sessions over two weeks at 8:30pm. We realize this time may not be convenient for everyone. In the past we’ve accommodated a number of different options including alternate time slots (particularly if more than 1 person expresses interest) and personal sessions. Personal sessions are an added cost. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss the option that best suits you.
I heard CrossFit Valkyrie puts the “fun” in Functional Movement, is this true?
Yes, you heard correctly.
I’m visiting from out of town but belong to a CrossFit affiliate in my home town, can I drop in for a WOD?
Of course! We welcome all members from other CrossFit affiliates to stop by the box. Please contact us at email@example.com to let us know when you plan to visit. Be prepared to provide information about any current or past medical issues/conditions as well as any other physical limitation you have so we can ensure you are safe and get worked!
Wait a minute - what the heck is this “WOD” you mentioned above?
“WOD” stands for Workout Of the Day. Each day in our Group Classes we warm up, go through a mobility routine and then hit the WOD. WODs are different each day and vary in duration, movement and intensity.
While we are on terms I don’t understand, can you please explain what in the world a “box” is?!
“Box” is the CrossFit term for gym or the space that we workout in. Why do we choose to use different terminology you might ask? We’ll share this well-guarded secret with you when you visit us!
I have heard CrossFit is really hard, is this true?
CrossFit is as hard as you make it! We encourage people to push to the limits of their own tolerances but only you can make the most out of your own workouts with the amount of work you put into them.
Do you offer personal training?
Yes. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to speak with our staff so we can evaluate your needs and discuss options/pricing.
